Applications are now open for the Access ART X Prize. A Prize sponsored by Access Corporation, the parent company of Access Bank.

The Access ART X Prize is an annual award for emerging artists in Africa and its Diaspora the Prize awards early-career artists with opportunities to develop their practices, with the intention of setting them up for the highest levels of success on the global stage.

Formerly open only to Nigerian emerging artists, The Access Art X Prize 2022/2023 edition has evolved to include an additional award that is open to emerging artists from all of Africa and its Diaspora, in a bid to buttress sustainable careers for a wider range of artists.

.The ART X Prize will award two exceptional emerging artists with funding, tailored mentoring support, and opportunities for cultural exchange, enabling them to complete compelling, ambitious projects that will further their careers and challenge the expectations of audiences across the world. 

Benefits

Two winners will be selected; one from Nigeria and one from Africa/The Diaspora.

The Nigerian Winner Will Receive:

  • Gasworks UK Residency Award
  • Exhibition at ART X Lagos
  • Supported by a $10,000 Grant
  • An opportunity for cultural exchange

The African / Diasporan Winner Will Receive:

  • Yinka Shonibare GAS Foundation NG Residency Award
  • Exhibition at ART X Lagos
  • Supported by a $10,000 Grant
  • An opportunity for cultural exchange

Eligibility

To apply for The Prize, you must:

  • Be a practising artist of 3 years or more.
  • Not currently enrolled as an undergraduate student
  • For the Gasworks UK Residency Award a citizen of Nigeria, living and working in Nigeria.
  • For the Yinka Shonibare GAS Foundation NG Residency Award a person of African descent, heritage or lineage, living and working in any African Country, or any Participant who identifies as a member of the African Diaspora globally and can trace their ancestry and connection to Africa.
  • Winners and finalists of previous editions of the Access ART X Prize are not permitted to apply
