EMERGE Program for African Women-Led Businesses by USAID and the African Management Institute

The USAID/AMI EMERGE Programme helps women-owned firms in South Africa remove obstacles to financing, increase leadership self-assurance and buy-in, and close deals.

Conditions for Eligibility
This program is intended for:

  • South African women-owned enterprises face obstacles when trying to get financing
    The CEO, Managing Director, Owner, or Founder of the company must be the primary participant and applicant, and they must be actively involved in the program.
  • Revenue made between R500,000 and R5,000,000 in revenue past fiscal year.
  • Years in Business: More than 2 years in operation
  • Internet access:
  • Being open to working online, which requires having a smartphone and an Internet connection in order to access online tools, courses, and communities
  • Performance and data-focused
  • Willing to exchange financial and performance information as part of the finance linkage

The program learning journey is designed to guide your company through four crucial stages of its journey over a four-month period. Each stage lasts for about three to four weeks. Key AMI employees, such as the Program Facilitator and a devoted AMI Programme & Learning Manager, will support you during this time.

  • Phase 1: Why are you not receiving the desired financing?
  • Phase 2: Improving your odds of success
  • Third stage: closing the contract
  • Phase 4: Financial access
