Companies supporting the SDGs in underdeveloped nations given financial support through the Business Partnership Facility (BPF).
WHAT IS BPF ABOUT?
The Belgian Directorate-General for Development Cooperation (DGD) founded and funds the BPF to encourage business sector participation in achieving the SDGs in developing nations.
The BPF offers a non-refundable grant of up to 200,000 euros, or at most 50% of the whole investment.

The BPF encourages successful, entrepreneurial business projects that have significant social benefits.
Each applicant should ideally be a collaboration between individuals or organizations from the public, business, and/or civil sectors. There must be at least one business partner for the partnership to exist.
Projects supported by the BPF must show both their social benefit and economic viability:
Impact on society and the environment, supporting SDGs. For instance:
- improvement in the average income of low-income families the creation and preservation of respectable jobs
- inexpensive access to products and services
- inclusion and youth and women’s economic development
- positive effects on the environment through resource conservation, emissions reduction, and/or biodiversity preservation…
- Financial stability
- The applicant must make it clear that the initiatives or ideas they have proposed are:self-sustaining, scalable, and replicable
Projects from various industries are welcome to apply, but they must center on at least one of the following three themes:
#1 Environment, biodiversity, and climate
This includes initiatives that support the population’s access to sufficient, affordable, and sustainable energy services, the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, the ease of obtaining bio- and environmental certification, the reuse of goods, the disposal of waste, etc. In order to lessen the effects of environmental changes already affecting their environment, candidate projects may also respond by modifying their (production) processes.
#2 Women’s entrepreneurship and gender
Special focus will be placed on female-led projects and businesses, real employment opportunities for girls and women, equal pay and treatment for men and women, advancing the status of women in the home and in society, providing goods that cater to the unique needs of girls and women in the environments in which they live,…
#3 Social protection and decent employment
Initiatives that work to ensure a just and sustainable income for workers and/or suppliers (farmers, etc.), promote fair trade, encourage workplace safety, as well as encourage the development of social protection systems, etc. will receive support in the pursuit of these goals.

The following countries are listed in alphabetical order: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Palestine, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zambia.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Each applicant should ideally be a collaboration between individuals or organizations from the public, business, and/or civil sectors. More so, there must be at least one business partner for the partnership to exist. Additionally,the project needs to be related to the company’s “core business.” International, European, or Belgian legal entities may be the partners.
