Meta-Africa No Filter Future Africa Grant for Extended Reality Creators

In support for production and development of new content, Africa No Filter in partnership will Electric South, Imisi 3D and Meta is accepting applications for grants of up to $30,000 from Extended Reality creators. Africa No Filter will commission work which uses immersive technology in order to support a thriving XR ecosystem to tell exciting stories about Africa. An ongoing mentorship and production support by Electric South will be given to those who will receive the grants. They will also have the opportunity to showcase their projects virtually or in-person. The deadline for this application is January 7, 2022 – Meta-Africa No Filter Future Africa Grant for Extended Reality Creators ($30,000 Grant)

To shift negative stereotypes about Africa, Meta has made it part of its focus to tell stories and build worlds through immersive technologies and ANF’s investment in innovative storytelling. This programme is intended to provide grants, mentorship and support for VR storytellers to enable them develop new and compelling content about Africa.

Key Requirements

  • An applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old
  • The applicant must be an African decedent and living in Africa
  • An applicant should have previous experience with XR content creation and at least one completed XR project
  • A potential applicant must at least have a portfolio of work that is accessible online
  • The proposed project must be completed within a period of six months
  • All applicants, if selected, must be available on the dates listed on the timeline below;
  • December 6, 2021: The application opens
  • January 7, 2022: The application will end
  • January 24, 2022: Applicants will be contacted on the outcome of their application
  • February 13, 2022: The grant program begins
  • August 13, 2022: The grant program comes to an end
  • August 2022: This will be the month in which the grantees will showcase their project. The date will be communicated at a later stage

  • 360 Video
  • Virtual Reality
  • Augmented Reality
  • Mixed Reality

The selected grantees will be invited to attend Electric South’s Creators Lab in February 2022 virtually.
