Applications are actually open for the 2027 DSTI-CSIR Inter-programme Bursary Scheme. The Inter-Programme Bursary Scheme (IBS), funded by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) is meant to assist full time research at Honours, 4th 12 months Engineering/Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and PhD stage at any South African public college.

Eligibility:

Students who’re accepted or registered for full-time research at any South African public college, who intend to register or are registered for the next levels: 

• Honours/fourth 12 months engineering/Postgraduate Diploma
• Masters
• Doctorate

Areas:

CSIR-DSTI IBS purposes are restricted to college students whose levels are aligned with the thematic analysis areas indicated under:

• Biocatalysis 
• Biopharming
• Bioprocessing
• Health 
• ICT 
• Indigenous Knowledge Systems  
• Microsystems expertise   
• Mining  
• Modelling and digital sciences   
• Titanium (manufacturing components)   
• Photonics   
• Water Research   

Benefits

• Honours/fourth 12 months engineering/Postgraduate Diploma: R160 000 
• Masters: R170 000
• Doctorate: R180 000 
• Students will obtain a further once-off laptop computer allowance of R10 000
