2026 WFP IGNITE Food Systems Challenge Rwanda for food systems innovators ($24,000 in equity-free funding) – Opportunities For Africans

Applications at the moment are open for the 2026 WFP IGNITE Food Systems Challenge. Building on this monitor document, The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and Impact Hub Kigali (IHK), launched the fourth version of the IGNITE Challenge. This initiative is part of the five-year partnership between World Food Programme and Mastercard Foundation which helps younger ladies and men in constructing sustainable livelihoods in agriculture and agribusiness.

Ignite 4.0 helps scalable, modern ventures inside Rwanda’s agrifood worth chains, with a robust give attention to creating and bettering jobs, particularly for younger ladies.

Requirements

While all food systems options are invited, options addressing the next areas alongside the agrifood worth chain, and enabling younger ladies to take part as entrepreneurs or staff, are notably inspired to apply:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

All candidates should meet the next eligibility standards: 

  • Business registration: Valid registration/certificates of incorporation and at the very least 2 years of operation in Rwanda
  • Have proof of a revenue-generating enterprise with confirmed market traction
  • Be a group of at the very least three full-time members devoted to the startup/SME/cooperative, together with the founding group
  • At least 50% of the founding and/or senior administration group should be from Rwanda/East Africa
  • The entity has to have present key operations in Rwanda
  • Be dedicated to help, present mentorship and share learnings with friends and Farmer Service Centers (FSCs) collaborating in this system. 

Youth-led companies, notably these led by younger ladies are particularly inspired to apply. A enterprise is taken into account youth-led if the CEO/Managing Director or at the very least one founder is underneath 35 years of age on the time of application.

Program Journey

Pre-acceleration Phase

  • Bootcamp (3 days): Up to 12 ventures be part of coaching with specialists/coaches to strengthen expertise corresponding to storytelling, management, gross sales, and pitch readiness.
  • Pitch session: The bootcamp ends with pitches to shortlist as much as 8 ventures.
  • Due diligence + proposals: Up to eight ventures undergo on-site due diligence to evaluate eligibility and program-fit, and submit proposals and budgets for the acceleration part

Acceleration Phase

Up to six ventures are chosen for the acceleration journey, which incorporates:

Technical help and funding

  • Business diagnostics + scaling plan growth
  • Tailored technical help primarily based on scaling wants
  • 1:1 teaching and mentorship
  • Thematic masterclasses
  • Equity-free funding as much as $24,000 per enterprise, plus steering to implement the funds and scaling plans

Partnership and ecosystem Opportunities
