Applications are open for the Africa Institute Global Africa Translation Fellowship 2026. As part of its African Languages and Translation Program, The Africa Institute invites purposes for the Global Africa Translation Fellowship.

This non-residential fellowship permits recipients to undertake their work outdoors The Africa Institute, Global Studies University (Sharjah, UAE). The fellowship goals to make important texts in African and African Diaspora research accessible to a wider international readership.

Benefits

  • Funding will vary from $1,000 to $5,000, relying on the scope and high quality of the proposed mission. 

Eligibility

  • Open to candidates from throughout the Global South.
  • Eligible tasks might embody retranslations of basic texts, beforehand untranslated works, poetry, prose, or collections of important concept.
  • Projects could also be both works-in-progress or newly conceived works possible for completion inside the fellowship interval.

Selection Process

  • Applications can be reviewed by The Africa Institute’s college and analysis fellows. Funding can be disbursed in two installments: the primary on the outset of the mission, and the second upon its completion.     • justification for a re-translation, if relevant, and

  • A 4–5-web page pattern (double-spaced, font 12) of the unique textual content(s) alongside the interpretation.
  • An rationalization of copyright standing:
