IWMF 2026 Anja Niedringhaus Courage In Photojournalism Award ($20,000 cash prize) – Opportunities For Africans

Applications at the moment are open for the 2026 IWMF Anja Niedringhaus Courage In Photojournalism Award. The Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award was created to honor the life and work of Pulitzer Prize-winning AP photographer and IWMF Courage in Journalism Award winner Anja Niedringhaus (1965-2014). With this Award, the IWMF celebrates the brave work of ladies photojournalists like Anja. The Award acknowledges the significance of visible journalistic work that conjures up us to take motion and compels us to higher perceive the world.

Created in 2014 with a $1 million reward from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the Award might be given yearly to a lady photojournalist whose work displays braveness and dedication, as Anja’s does. The Award winner might be publicly honored, have her work showcased, and obtain a cash prize of $20,000.

Eligibility Criteria:

• The award is open to girls, nonbinary and gender nonconforming journalists.
• The candidate should be working as a journalist full-time, and journalism should be their main occupation.
• Both freelance journalists and people affiliated with media organizations are eligible

Additional Requirements for the Contest:

• The photographer should be the writer of the images submitted in her/their identify.
• The photographer, or the agent or consultant coming into on their behalf, should be the copyright holder or have been approved by the copyright holder to submit the images.
• The IWMF reserves the best to ask finalists or the winner for the RAW, or authentic digicam information captured straight by the digicam, to be submitted for evaluation if the submission advances to remaining rounds of judging. Photographers should be open and clear about your complete course of by which their photos are made and be accountable to the IWMF for his or her apply.
