Nominations are open for the Royal Society Darwin Medal 2026. The Darwin Medal is awarded for work of distinction in evolution, organic variety and developmental, inhabitants and organismal biology.
The Darwin Medal was created in reminiscence of Charles Darwin FRS (PDF) and was first awarded in 1890 to famous biologist and naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace FRS ‘for his independent origination of the theory of the origin of species by natural selection.’
Award
- The medal is of silver gilt, was awarded biennially till 2018 and is now awarded yearly and is accompanied by a present of £2,000.
Eligibility
- Open to UK/Commonwealth/Republic of Ireland residents or those that have been residents for 3 or extra years.
- There are not any restrictions on profession stage and nominations will stay legitimate and shall be thought of by the award choice committee all through three nomination cycles.
