Fully Funded Doctoral Research Programme on Climate Change and Education at University of The Gambia (UTG)

Overview:

The University of The Gambia (UTG), in collaboration with the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), is happy to ask purposes for its Ph.D. diploma programme in Climate Change and Education. This is a 43-month program provided at UTG’s Kanifing Campus. The programme is absolutely funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), alongside contributions from member international locations in West Africa. Programme Objectives:

The key aims of the Climate Change and Education programme are to:

  1. Train future leaders in local weather change training to reinforce the difference capabilities of policymakers and susceptible communities in West Africa.
  2. Enhance local weather change training at all ranges (fundamental, secondary, tertiary) in West African establishments.
  3. Provide local weather training companies to NGOs working with underprivileged communities in West Africa.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Nationality: Open to candidates from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, The Gambia, and Togo.
  • Academic Qualifications:
    • A BSc with a minimal CGPA of 3.00 (B+) or higher.
    • A Master’s diploma in any discipline with a minimal CGPA of B+ is eligible.
    • Applicants with a background in training could have a bonus.
  • Age: Applicants have to be beneath 40 years of age by December 2024.
  • Language: Good proficiency in English (each written and spoken).
  • Gender: Female candidates are strongly inspired to apply.

Programme Structure:

The programme consists of each educational and analysis elements:

  1. Language Course: A 4-month English or French language course in Ghana (English) or Togo (French).
  2. Academic Component: 6 months of coursework, masking 24 modules taught weekly.
  3. Research Component: 24 months of analysis, together with 6 months for information evaluation and dissertation writing.
  4. Germany Research Exchange: A 3-6 month analysis change in Germany for hands-on studying, information evaluation, and laboratory work.

Scholarship and Research Support:

  1. Stipend: Monthly allowance to cowl lodging and residing bills.
  2. Tuition: Full tuition charges paid by WASCAL.
  3. Research Funds: Available after the analysis proposal approval.
  4. Language Course: 4-month language course for Francophone and Lusophone college students.
  5. Germany Travel: 3-6 month journey to Germany for analysis with a month-to-month allowance.
  6. Laptop: A brand new laptop computer on mortgage for the period of the programme.
