The Thiel Fellowship gives $100,000 to young people who want to build new things instead of sitting in a classroom.
Established in 2011 by investor and technology entrepreneur Peter Thiel, the Thiel Fellowship is a two-year program designed for young individuals who aspire to create new things. In exchange for a $100,000 award and assistance from the network of scientists, investors, and founders of the Thiel Foundation, Thiel Fellows forego or drop out of college.
How is the grant administered?
A $100,000 grant is given to fellows over a two-year period. We don’t acquire stock in your business.
What number of Fellows do you choose?
Between 20 and 30 each year.
What is the application’s age limit?
Applications are open to anyone under the age of 22.
If I’m still in school, may I still apply for the Fellowship?
Yes, but you’ll have to drop out to accept the Fellowship if you’re chosen.
Do you exclusively provide fellowships to engineers who write software?
No. While some Thiel Fellows are programmers, others have founded media firms, consumer goods companies, nonprofits, and hardware companies. Our goal is to assist youth who aspire to share their ideas with the world.
