Every year, hundreds of international professional journalists apply for ten seats in the WPI fellowship programme. Some of the top journalists in their respective nations are represented among the selected finalists. Their curiosity, intelligence, and ambition are inborn, and they approach journalism with a strong sense of duty and commitment.

World Press Institute WPI Fellow selection is a competitive process. For ten fellowship places, hundreds of gifted journalists apply each year. The finest of the best are selected by a selection committee made up of seasoned journalists and corporate communications experts with global expertise.

Qualifiability Standards

  • minimum of five years of full-time work experience in print, broadcast, or online journalism, including wire services, websites, online publications, radio, television, news or editorial sections of newspapers, and wire services.
  • columnists, broadcast producers, photojournalists, and editorial cartoonists.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a working journalist is required for those who oversee journalists.
  • Work done on journalism-related projects while attending college is not taken into account for experience. Public relations professionals and employees of companies whose main line of business is not the media are not eligible.
  • Need to be employed as a non-American journalist currently working abroad.
  • proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Possibility of being a leader.

Benefits of the World Press Institute Journalist Fellowship

The following programme costs are covered by WPI:

  • Transportation
  • airfare to the United States, round-trip.
  • Domestic travel associated with the WPI programme.
  • Lodging Food A little daily stipend is provided to fellows for the purchase of food.
  • Fellows bear the cost of their own personal items, including phones, cameras, mail, and clothes.

Fellowship Conditions

The following guidelines must be followed by WPI Fellows. Programme termination may occur for violations of these terms.

  • Attend and be ready for all scheduled WPI activities and briefings.
  • Stay throughout the duration of the programme, and upon its conclusion, return home.
  • Among other places, write for the WPI website as allocated. It is also encouraged for fellows to share with their domestic readers, listeners, or viewers.
  • Take part in regular assessments and evaluations, such as roundtable meetings to exchange perspectives on topics facing American or international journalism.
  • tolerance for those from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Willingness to travel: Fellows sometimes live out of their suitcases and programme locations vary regularly.

The 2024 programme is currently accepting applications.
The deadline for applications is February 15, 2024. The announcement of the selections will happen in early May
2024.
