CFK AFRICA SCHOLARSHIPS 2024

CFK AFRICA SCHOLARSHIPS 2024

Scholarship applications are being accepted to help students who plan to enroll in Makerere University’s master’s program. The scholarships will be given to eligible students to read for a two-year master’s program in environmental and natural resources, computer science and information sciences, engineering, mathematical modeling, geosciences, physics, statistics, and other related fields at Makerere University. The program will start in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Beginning in 2011, there will be up to five (5) Scholarships given out for the academic year. The scholarship is completely supported. Every scholarship that is granted will pay for living expenses as well as tuition and course costs. In addition, books, a laptop, cutting-edge electronics, and other supplies needed for the research project will be covered by the scholarship.

A visit to an overseas CFK Board Member or another Leading International Expert in a related field, either a CFK Board Member or another Expert linked with a CFK Board Member, will be financially supported during the second year of a two-year master’s program. The purpose of this tour is to collaborate and mentor on research. If such a study visit is approved, one or more cooperating experts may stay for up to four weeks (during two separate trip periods).

A 2-1 (upper second class) or first class (1-1) undergraduate degree is a prerequisite for admission. If an application is submitted prior to the release of the undergraduate degree results, the conditional scholarship grant may still be given, subject to the applicant receiving a 2-1 (upper second class) or (1-1) first class degree upon receipt of the results.

Terms of the Award

The study and research topic for which the scholarship was initially awarded and for which the student initially registered at Makerere University will remain the focus of the award for the full two-year scholarship tenure.
Authorization for field activity must come from the Tullow Oil point of contact. The CFK Scholarships Selection and Evaluation Panel must authorize collaborative research trips abroad at least three months before the scheduled visit.

The accepted students are required to sign a contract with The CFK, wherein they agree to pay a specified penalty (which may include returning scholarship funds) should they violate the terms of the agreement.

Breach of contract encompasses, among other things, failing to finish the necessary courses, failing to submit the quarterly and annual reports (see below), and failing to finish the master’s program within the allotted time.

Passing tests and completing other requirements satisfactorily is a requirement for the scholarship’s continued support.

At an annual meeting, scholarship recipients will have to present their work to The CFK Board.

At the conclusion of their first year, students should also submit a report on their work to The CFK Scholarships Selection and Evaluation Panel. The student and the local supervising faculty member should sign the report, which should not exceed four pages. A more thorough report on accomplishments and digital copies of the outputs should be sent to the Panel at the conclusion of the second year. In addition to these yearly reports, a two-page report that has been authorized by the supervisor must be submitted each quarter.
