Those who are interested in the IJP program should email their application to the German embassy in their home country, along with a single PDF document. It is advisable to inquire at these locations with the person in charge of accepting IJP applications. Usually, they are the Atta-chés of Culture and/or Press. Applications that are not submitted to these addresses won’t be taken into consideration.
The application has to contain:
- The candidates should write a letter explaining three things: why they are interested in the program, why they want to stay in Germany, and which media outlet they would prefer to use during their stay (the IJP reserves the right to accommodate fellows in other media, should the preference not be available). The letter should be written in German (preferred), English (second preference), and no more than 3,500 characters with spaces. Berlin newsrooms alone). It is also required of TV journalists to justify their plans for the technical and logistical realization of their German shows. The technological criteria for television productions are not met by the IJP or German newsrooms.
- A curriculum vitae with date of birth, address, private and office phone number with country code, and email address, in either German (first choice) or English (second choice). It is necessary to provide proof of the professional and language abilities needed for the scholarship.

The candidates will also take a speaking exam administered by the embassy staff, and the IJP coordination retains the right to ask for a video or video call in the language that the candidates say they can speak if needed.
- Three recent reports or articles from the candidates show their competence as professionals. Transcripts of any work broadcast on television or radio must be submitted. A URL to the website hosting the work could also be included.
- Three suggestions for possible research subjects over the duration of the scholarship program’s operation. There should be no more than 600 characters (including spaces) in each topic.
- a letter of recommendation from the editor or department head of the media outlet where the candidate is employed or collaborates (preferably in Spanish). A summary of the journalist’s credentials should be included, along with the applicant’s express consent to take part in the program for two months.
- Applications that are not complete will be denied.
Timetable
The program’s application date is December 17, 2023. Those who progress through the application stages will receive an invitation to an interview at the German consulate located in their home nation. Those who have been accepted will receive notifications throughout February.
The fellowship will formally begin at the end of April with two seminars: one in Berlin on the weekend of June 29–30, 2024, and another from April 27 to May 1, 2024. It is required of the German and Latin fellows to attend the seminars. In 2024, the fellowship will last for two months, from May to June. The Goethe-Institut is scheduled to provide a one-week excursion to two or three German cities that is only open to Latinos at midterm. The IJP will pay for the travel; fellows’ projects must take a backseat to the required attendance.
From July through September, the German guys will be in South America.
