Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships

Deadline: January 2024 | Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships

To carry out a substantial piece of publishable work, early career researchers with a track record in research but without a full-time permanent academic position are eligible to apply for fellowships offered by UK universities that have the authority to confer research degrees. The Fellowships are meant to help those who are still relatively new to academia, and the idea is that the appointment will eventually lead to a more permanent role at the same university or one that is different.
Worth

The program is based on a pattern of joint support, whereby the host university will contribute the remaining amount each year of the award, with the Leverhulme Trust covering 50% of the Fellow’s total salary costs (including National Insurance, superannuation, and London allowance, where applicable) up to a maximum of £26,000. Up to a maximum yearly contribution of £26,000, the Trust’s contribution will typically rise in succeeding years in accordance with pay awards and regular increments. If the Fellowship is held part-time, the maximum yearly contribution from the Trust will be prorated accordingly. To support their study, the Fellow may apply for up to £6,000 in annual research expenditures.

Time Frame

Full-time fellowships are available for three years. Requests to hold the award part-time for obligations to childcare, disability, or health-related issues for a correspondingly longer amount of time will be supported by the Trust.

How to Apply:

Please visit the Leverhulme Trust Grants Management System to submit an application.

  • Google Chrome is the suggested browser. Please refer to the Application Help Notes when filling out the online application.
  • By 4 p.m. on February 22, 2024, the host university must approve and submit applications to the Trust. The head of the host department and an administrative officer acting on behalf of the host university must provide institutional approval.
  • Within three weeks following the closing date, nominated referees must also submit their references electronically. The outcome of the applications will be emailed to the applicants by the end of May 2024.
