Tasks and Accountabilities

Develop, maintain, and revise the unit’s regional digital communication strategy and workplan in collaboration with the Head of Programs TOC/CT, program managers, and other relevant parties; In accordance with the regional office identity, develop a consistent corporate social media identity for UNODC TOC/CT in East Africa; Create, launch, and oversee social media campaigns, also known as awareness campaigns, on the most popular platforms (such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tik-Tok, etc.) to spread prevention messages, encourage public awareness of common crimes, and highlight the unit’s work helping states combat crime; Produce and modify digital communication assets for social media sharing, such as stories, graphics, films, pictures, and articles; oversee and maintain the unit’s social media accounts; Using SEO analytics tools, monitor the effectiveness of your digital communications and modify your plan as necessary. Make and manage a picture and video gallery featuring the work from the unit’s projects. help with the planning, creation, and distribution of the unit’s reports, presentations, and publications; help with media monitoring and reporting on criminal issues that are covered by print, broadcast, and internet media; Engage in unit events and activities (trainings, meetings, conferences, and presentations), and assist with logistics as needed; In close collaboration with the program/project managers and collaborative partners, start developing a 6-series podcast season on transnational organized crime as a way to create an educational and innovative communications tool to increase public awareness.

credentials/specialized abilities

advanced degree from university a master’s degree in digital media, digital marketing, digital communication, marketing, language, or communication, or its equivalent Instead of the advanced degree, two more years of qualifying experience combined with a first-level university degree in a related discipline may be accepted. It is preferred to have seven years of professional job experience in marketing, journalism, or digital communications at the national and/or international level. It is preferred to have excellent digital communication abilities as well as campaign creation and editing experience. It would be ideal to have excellent skills in digital design, photography, social media writing, videography, or editing. It is preferred to have strong drafting, formulation, reporting, and oral and written communication abilities. Strong proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint within the Office Suite is preferred. It is preferred if you have prior experience running business social media accounts. Proficiency with Adobe, Illustrator, and Photoshop design software is preferred. Analytical SEO expertise is preferred.

The United Nations Secretariat operates in two languages: French and English. English proficiency is necessary for this role. It is advantageous to know another official working language of the UN.
