JOB SUMMARY:

In response to requests from authorized health facility service providers, this role supports the timely and accurate diagnosis of diseases by performing routine and specialized laboratory tests in accordance with State/National or International set procedures, guidelines, and standards. The position guarantees the precision, quality, and security of laboratory testing and the provision of healthcare. This plays a part in the diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance of diseases, improving health outcomes and safeguarding the most vulnerable people of the community. To ensure accurate and fast findings, this function requires precision, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of scientific principles.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities

  • Use common laboratory tools like pipettes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, autoclaves, and microscopes. Make sure the equipment is kept in excellent operating order, carry out regular maintenance, and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Conduct laboratory tests for illness diagnosis, screening, or surveillance at the request of approved health care providers in the health facility.
  • When conducting laboratory tests, strictly adhere to and follow State/National or International testing methods, procedures, and protocols.
  • Give a thorough explanation of the laboratory test that will be conducted, the samples that will be gathered, how they will be collected, and any needs or precautions that need to be taken either before or after sample collection to all of the patients.
  • Label samples appropriately, document minutiae, and communicate findings to the healthcare provider who made the request.
  • Avoid cross-contamination when gathering samples, handling samples, performing tests, and making sure waste is disposed of properly. To guarantee a secure workplace, keep your workspace neat and orderly.
  • Maintain IPC within and outside the lab.
  • Regularly evaluate data, communicate trends, identify any problems, and work with the MEAL team and healthcare providers.
  • Ascertain that laboratory reagents, sample collection supplies, IPC materials, and other supplies are available in coordination with the pharmacist, team leader, health coordinator, or management. keeps up-to-date stock data for all of the supplies, reagents, etc.
  • prevents stock outs by planning ahead and making prompt requests to the warehouse for the restocking of consumables, slides, reagents, IPC materials, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Usually a certified, registered laboratory technician from an accredited training program with a current practicing license or an authorized comparable qualification across the nation.
  • Prior experience in the same role for at least two years will be advantageous.
  • Preference given to prior NGO experience.
  • Good public relations and communication abilities for carrying out tasks in the public health care system.
