AUC, the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA/AC), and the US Department of State collaborate on the Tomorrow’s Leaders Graduate (TLG) student programme. Through organised graduate study and research that advances the professionalisation of emerging leaders and offers regional solutions to shared problems in the MENA region, TLG provides academically qualified and economically deserving students with the professional qualifications and experience needed to advance knowledge and contribute to the achievement of socially relevant outcomes.

TLG provides Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) students with a special chance to pursue postsecondary education and graduate from The American University in Cairo (AUC) with a master’s degree in any of the following programmes:

  • Gender and Women’s Studies Master of Arts (MA GNST)
  • International and Comparative Education Master of Arts (MA ICED)
  • Master of Arts in Refugee Studies and Migration (MA CMRS)
  • International Development Master of Arts in Economics (MA ECID)
  • Journalism and Mass Communication Master of Arts (MA JRMC)
  • Public Policy Master’s degree (MPP)
  • Public Administration Master’s Degree (MPA)
  • Middle East Studies MA (MA MEST) programme
  • International Human Rights Law Master’s Degree (MA IHRL)
  • Sustainable Development Master of Science (MS SSDV)
  • Sociology/Anthropology Master of Arts (MA SOAN)
  • Political science master’s degree (MA POLS)
  • Biotechnology Master of Science (MS BIOT)
  • Environmental Engineering Master of Science (MS ENVE)

Eligibility

  • Nationals or citizens of Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Libya, Tunisia, Yemen, Syria, Bahrain, the West Bank, and Gaza should be eligible to enrol.
  • Pass the AUC graduate admissions test
  • Excellent academic potential with a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent, in a bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English; maturity, adaptability, and leadership potential as shown by recommendations, interviews, and extracurricular activities.

Need for money

Time Frame

  • Along with any academic English language remediation classes that may be required, the TLG students programme is provided for two years, with a review conducted each semester to ensure that the students are performing satisfactorily academically.

Programmes for TLG students include:

  • The entire cost of tuition for the autumn and spring terms
  • Health insurance
  • A monthly allowance
  • During the course of the programme, the laptop used for student housing
  • Possibility of internship or practicum, with reimbursement for any necessary local travel expenses
  • Possibility of presenting research findings at a single conference, which will be applied for and awarded competitively in accordance with Graduate Student Support Grant requirements
  • During breaks, students who are unable to return home due to uncontrollable circumstances can continue their approved programme activities on campus with housing and a living allowance. Two annual round-trip economy airline tickets from home to campus
  • Book stipend

How Can I Apply?

  • Application for FHI360 must be submitted.
  • The AUC TLG graduate entrance application must be submitted.
  • November 30, 2023 is the deadline for submitting an AUC graduate application to be considered for autumn of 2024.
