Do you enjoy taking pictures for fun or as a career, or are you just someone who thinks the natural world is beautiful? We’d like to ask you to submit your finest photos for our forthcoming “Trees, People, Planet” picture contest.

We are looking for striking photos that highlight the diversity, beauty, and relationship between humans and the world’s landscapes, forests, and wildlife. We invite you to investigate the water subject this year, emphasising the vital function that water plays in forest ecosystems.

Eligibility
- We welcome competitors in the CIFOR-ICRAF picture competition who are at least 18 years old. It is recommended that you utilise the photography gear that you are most familiar with. CIFOR-ICRAF employees are not permitted entry.
- Contributors accept a creative commons, attribution, non-commercial share-alike licence (when-NC-SA) when submitting images to the competition.
- The contributor guarantees that the photo was taken lawfully and that they have permission to depict any individuals or other information shown in the picture by posting it.
- All images entered into the competition may be used by the organisers of CIFOR-ICRAF activities and materials, including exhibitions. When the organisers publish or utilise the contributors’ photos, they will provide credit. The photographs that contributors provide are not permitted to be used for profit.
- Media employees must affix an authorization signed by a representative of the media organisation that employs them. This consent should indicate that the author’s piece may be published by the contest organisers from the media source where the photo first appeared. If relevant, kindly attach your approval to the submission form.
Rules
- There should be no watermarks, autographs, or captions on entries.
- Previous winners of photographic contests will be immediately disqualified from entering.
- Submissions with images of minors or children are not accepted.
- Entries produced with the aid of or utilising generative artificial intelligence tools are not eligible.
- Photographs depicting intentional mistreatment of wildlife will not be approved.
- Images taken in situations where human presence is forbidden by authorities or property managers, or where the photographer intentionally causes or has caused environmental damage, are not admissible.
- Images captured prior to 2010 will not be accepted.
Application
- A panel of judges chosen by the CIFOR-ICRAF team will analyse each entry and choose at least 30 images from among all eligible contributions made throughout the competition period. The following standards will be used to select the finalists:
- Originality (30%)
- quality of photos (30%)
- Constituency (30%)
- Theme execution (10%)
- The shortlisted submissions will be made available on CIFOR-ICRAF’s web platforms. From the finalist entries, the judges panel will select the winners of the first and second prizes, and the public will be able to vote online for their best entry.
- The “popular vote” prize will go to the picture that garners the most votes.
- The CIFOR-ICRAF team will make sure that various candidates are chosen to receive the first prize, second prize, and popular vote.
