Areas

  • An all-encompassing award for education The Yidan Prize is given annually to people and groups in two categories:
  • Education research is the body of knowledge—science, psychology, statistics—that enables educators to better understand their methods with greater methodical precision.
  • Education development is the process of learning new things and finding ways to share education so that people may advocate for strategies that are effective.

Prize Information

  • The HK$30 million total, half of which is a project money spread over three years to support the laureate’s work and the other half of which is a cash prize to acknowledge the laureates’ contributions to the industry, is awarded to each year’s winners together with a gold medal.
  • They may start a new initiative, reach out to a new area, or simply carry on with their excellent work in the second half. Throughout, they will be by their side, helping them to assess their progress and map their influence.

Eligibility

  • All nominations are invited; everyone is encouraged to participate in their process. Nominations for teams or individuals for the Education Development or Research prizes are accepted without an invitation.
  • You may even put yourself forward for nomination; you’ll simply need three backers, not just two. There is no benefit or drawback to nominating oneself because they evaluate self-nominations in the same impartial, fair manner. Recall that you cannot support a person or group that you are nominating at the same time. That does not preclude you from endorsing a different nomination in the meantime.

  • A nominee’s prospects do not improve if they receive multiple nominations in the same category. Consider selecting one nominee among you and asking the others to support them if you know of anyone else who would like to nominate the same individual or group. Overall, I think the application will be stronger.
  • If a nominee’s work encompasses both research and development, they may nominate themselves more than once in the same category. Their chances do not improve if they are nominated more than once in a certain category. Consider selecting one nominee among you and asking the others to support them if you know of anyone else who would like to nominate the same individual or group. Overall, I think it will be a stronger nomination.
  • Nominations may be made in as many ways as you’d like.
  • A few things are an exception. You are not eligible to submit a nomination (or endorse one) if you would want to honour a member of your immediate family, if you are a current board director, if you are on one of their advisory or judging committees, or if you would like to honour a deceased individual.
