Job Specifications
- With a base in the Kakuma/Dadaab Refugee Camp, the teacher trainer will oversee teacher preparation for the TeachWell project in both the host communities in Turkana and Garissa Counties and the refugee camps itself. He or she will collaborate closely with the Education Technical Lead to enhance the administration and operation of LWF’s educational programs in both camps.
- The position will work closely with LWF sector professionals in the education sector, particularly teachers, and report to the Education Technical Lead or someone designated by them.
duties and responsibilities:
Evaluating the need for teacher training:
- Determining the target teachers’ training requirements in the host community and the camps for refugees (Kakuma, Koloeyei, and Dadaab).
- Organizing and carrying out pre- and post-tests, and using the findings to provide teachers undergoing project-related training with follow-up and assistance.
- Examining lessons to determine the advantages and disadvantages of teachers.
Coaching, mentoring, and training for teachers
- Create training materials and resources, provide excellent teacher training, lessons, and assistance to trainees in accordance with the TeachWell / RTI curriculum.
- Offer teachers counseling, direction, and one-on-one training.
- Assist sub-county education offices’ curriculum support officers in performing teacher evaluations and observations in classrooms.
- Create fresh approaches and ideas for the teacher candidates’ (including MHPSS) better learning environment, teacher wellbeing, and general well-being.
- Work together with educators to create better lesson plans, exams, curricula, and methods for managing the classroom.
- Organize and oversee Teacher Learning Circles (TLCs) at camps.
- Creating teacher networks between community school instructors who are hosting refugees and those who do not, and motivating them to exchange resources and expertise.
- Planning teacher-inspiring seminars, training sessions, and gatherings with special guests.
- Create and manage strategies for teachers’ capacity development in schools located in refugee camps.
Implementing and monitoring programs
- Arrange an internal teacher training calendar and hold quarterly planning workshops to establish the TPD Project’s (TOTs) teacher selection criteria.
- Create training materials in language and other subjects determined by needs analyses.
- Arrange and conduct training teachers’ quarterly feedback review sessions to establish objectives and offer input on the TeachWell initiative and TPD program.
- Uphold, supervise, and ensure that all teacher training records are maintained with human resources for all instructors taught under this project.
- Staying up to date with changes in Kenyan education and teacher preparation.
- Constantly examining the disparities between genders in teacher preparation programs at camp schools, creating and carrying out plans to boost the number of female instructors enrolled in TPD.
- Maintain regular lines of communication and interaction with the staff and educators in the education sector, as well as with committees in charge of school management, refugee education, the county and sub-county education offices, and other organizations and partners in development.
- Participate in budgets, reviews, resource mobilization, and education programs that are in line with organizational priorities.
- Write and turn in excellent reports about the TeachWell initiative.
Credentials and character traits
- a Bachelor of Education degree.
- a minimum of three years of steadily increasing professional experience in administration, supervision, and/or teacher preparation.
- Have practical understanding of and experience with the following humanitarian laws, standards, and principles: Gender Age Marker, Rights Based Approach, PSEA, Core Humanitarian Standards, and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.
