INTERNATIONAL SETTING

These positions report to the Aviation Officer and are located in Field Offices (FO), Area Offices (AO), and Country Offices (COs). At this level, employees work in environments with more complicated security setups and/or more flights, which means there are more procedures and details to do. Employees that possess this role exhibit initiative and personal accountability by responding to questions and issues on their own, using only general instructions and a thorough grasp of the local environment. Every day, one must exercise discretion in handling unanticipated situations. In addition to performing a specialized technical function and specializing in either air transport or air movement, job holders in certain circumstances may also supervise and manage a team of employees. It is also possible for job holders to be based in an AO or FO without a professional technical supervisor on site, in which case they will be required to handle regular problems and make decisions on their own.

JOB GOALS

To administer, coordinate, and carry out a variety of administrative, technical, and coordinating tasks in order to enable the humanitarian community to receive a safe and efficient air service.

Important Accountabilities (not exhaustive)

  • In order to provide safe and efficient air operations for the humanitarian community, provide operational coordination and technical support while adhering to WFP standards, including risk management procedures.
  • Communicate with representatives of the airport, other local authorities, and outside parties to acquire the authorizations, paperwork, and clearances needed for flight operations.
  • In order to guarantee safe flights, carry out pre-flight procedures to make sure that all registered passengers and cargo are appropriately transported on the aircraft in cooperation with the crew.
  • Compile all post-flight documentation to verify that flights were conducted in accordance with the rules and, from time to time, assess the performance of air operators.
  • Utilize initiative to resolve or escalate operational issues while communicating with all stakeholders and traversing intricate security environments to guarantee that they are resolved promptly and in accordance with WFP standards.
  • Assist in the negotiation of local service contracts to create partnerships that work well and provide the best terms and conditions for air operations.
  • To guarantee contractual performance, gather and evaluate data, create technical reports that aid in decision-making, and support planning, carrying out, and reporting.
  • Revise and expand upon current databases and documentation, guaranteeing pertinent data is precise, arranged and accessible to others, and aligned with reporting mandates.
  • Answer consumer questions in accordance with established procedures, seeking advice or raising the issue when necessary to guarantee prompt resolution of all inquiries with excellent client care.
  • To facilitate the synchronization of aviation activities with broader programs and guarantee a cogent approach to air operations, cultivate partnerships with internal counterparts.
  • Oversee the work of other employees, offering helpful counsel and direction to guarantee that team and individual goals are met by the predetermined deadlines and standards.
  • To maximize the performance of air operations and related activities, make evidence-based recommendations and support process evaluations and technique and practice changes.

COMMON MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: For positions in air operations, completion of high school is required. For positions in air movement, a post-secondary certificate in air traffic control, flight dispatch, aeronautical engineering, or a similar discipline is preferred.
  • Five years of experience, or equivalent work experience. Language: Proficiency in written and spoken communication in the duty station’s native tongue, if applicable, as well as in the UN language, English.
