As our society transitions from a fossil fuel-dependent environment to a circular bioeconomy, forest landscapes are expected to take on a more significant role. Natural, well-managed forests are essential for supplying the rising demand for wood-based products around the world as well as for climate change adaptation and mitigation, water quality, and water availability.

Programme elements for training

The programme consists of five parts, all of which are based in your country or a nearby region:

  • Initial consultation and a part-time online course
  • Midterm intensive workshop
  • “Change Project” (CP) mentoring
  • (In conjunction with the start-up meeting for the following course round) Final meeting presenting CPs
  • Alumni workshops and a platform for alumni

Eligibility

  • Governments at all levels—national, regional, and local—as well as civil society, the commercial sector, and academic institutions—work together to manage natural resources like water and biodiversity as well as restore forests and process their products.
  • Applicants are those who are employed by these companies and institutions and who need the endorsement of their employer.
  • Rounds from Ethiopia, Lao PDR, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam are featured in English-language programming.
  • Programme rounds are available in French from Burkina Faso, the DRC, Senegal, and Togo (see LoCoFoRest website in French).
