AREA OF WORK:
As the main point of contact for IRC’s primary nutrition care services in Borno state under the UKAID grant, the Senior Nutrition Manager will work closely with other nutrition managers in the state to oversee day-to-day administrative matters and coordinate with program managers in Adamawa and Yobe states. The Senior Nutrition Manager will report to the Nutrition Coordinator. In compliance with national and international standards, the senior nutrition manager will oversee the execution of a high-quality nutrition program. He or she will recognize any gaps in the nutrition services provided and take the appropriate action to close such gaps. In addition to supporting system strengthening and the promotion of childhood nutrition, s/he will offer technical oversight and help for the development, execution, and monitoring of high-impact interventions, with a focus on the most vulnerable and underserved population groups. Furthermore, offer the Health Department coordinated support and technical assistance for managing ongoing programs throughout the state and setting up nutrition surveillance systems. In addition to directly supervising nutrition staff, s/he will oversee all nutrition-related activities, which will include outreach programs, inpatient and outpatient treatment, and a comprehensive infant and young child feeding program. Under the supervision of the nutrition coordinator, s/he will oversee the activities of the nutrition program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Development & Management of Programs
- MM/JERE and Monguno LGAs: Organize all activities funded by the UKAid grant in coordination with the Governance sector and Green code.
- Take part in creating recommendations for the nutrition industry, including budgets and monitoring their successful execution.
- Create work plans for the nutrition sector for each of the IRC nutrition funds that the nutrition coordinator has given to the recipient. Oversee and oversee the execution and tracking of nutrition project activities in accordance with proposal objectives and work plan schedules.
- Organize regular project reporting to the donor, such as mid-term and final funding reports.
- Maintain nutritional surveillance using established methods, such as surveys, process monitoring, SMART, LQAS, SQUEAC, and other quick techniques, throughout the program sites, including the host community and internally displaced people (IDPs).
- Establish, execute, and oversee community-based management of acute malnutrition initiatives in conjunction with patient follow-up, referrals, and education for improved community-level management in collaboration with field-based nutrition personnel and community health volunteers.
- Create training programs and implementation strategies for community health volunteers (CHVs) in coordination with other IRC departments and implementing partners.
- Participate in the creation of disaster preparedness plans and help respond to and handle any nutrition issues, such as severe food shortages.
- Encourage the best practices for nursing mothers, infants, and young children in different healthcare settings.
- Oversee the community’s mass MUAC screenings and the installation and integration of the comprehensive growth monitoring program, and provide reports as needed.
- If necessary, actively engage in the implementation of operational research and the documentation of best nutrition practices in a variety of healthcare settings and outreach locations.
- Engage in active participation in the scheduled KAP Assessments, nutrition surveys, and rapid nutrition assessments.
- Keeping an eye on and overseeing MOH employees who are assigned to the IRC to make sure work is done effectively.
- Keep a close eye on employees’ performance in accordance with their job descriptions and promptly provide written feedback.
- Oversee the ongoing nutrition staff training programs and organize consultant trainings in accordance with the annual work plan and budget.
- Examine the complaints and personnel issues raised by the nutrition staff, and help identify and implement solutions.
- As appropriate, take part in the hiring process for nutritionists.
- Take part in the creation of concept notes, budgets, and proposals while working with the DDP, HQ Technical Unit, Nutrition Coordinator, and Grants team.
- Keep an eye on the acquisition and utilization of materials, tools, and supplies.
- In accordance with the IRC’s Program Framework and program objectives, track and assess the proper implementation of initiatives.

Workers’ Compensation

- Directly monitor the nutrition staff, function as the project team’s leader throughout, and supervise the execution and coordination of activity programs to guarantee that goals are reached.

Management and Reporting of Grants
- Develop and maintain work, spending, and procurement strategies for all projects; oversee and manage all nutrition grants.
- Attend the Grants Mid-Term, Final, and Opening Meetings.
- Within the set timeframe, prepare internal and external reports in the appropriate donor and IRC formats.
- Ensure that grants are spent appropriately and on schedule to accomplish program objectives, that contributions to grants are reported, and that supplies and resources are used and distributed.
Coordination and Representation
- To improve collaboration and coordination, establish and maintain strong working connections with all relevant parties, including as the Ministry of Health, local authorities, NGOs, UN agencies, community-based organizations, and other IRC sectors.
- Make sure that, when necessary, information from coordination meetings is distributed both internally and with other sectors.
- Participate in the coordination meetings for nutrition or represent the IRC in other pertinent venues.
Requirements
- a bachelor’s degree in food, nutrition, and dietetics from an accredited university, or a registered nurse or medical professional with a solid background in nutrition. Nutrition and Public Health (MPH) master’s degree preferred.
- It is necessary to have a minimum of five years of professional experience in the fields of nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and administration, and/or pertinent areas of nutrition care for mothers, infants, and children at the program management level.
- familiarity with computer statistics programs like SMART and rudimentary data analysis abilities.
- expertise in creating and executing different approaches, such as nutrition surveys.
- The Nigeria Nutritionist and Dietitians Institute or other pertinent bodies, including SQUEAC and SLEAC surveying techniques, must register the registration.
- An additional benefit is having management experience with feeding programs for groups of refugees or internally displaced people.
