The Mastercard Foundation and CMU-Africa have teamed up to support students whose promise and aptitude outweigh their financial capabilities. Graduate students get their Master of Science degrees in engineering artificial intelligence, electrical and computer engineering, or information technology. The Scholars continue to make a difference in their communities once the programme is over and help bring about significant change across the continent.
Criteria
Students have shown the following qualities despite facing social and economic obstacles:
- Academic talent: Students who excel in school cherish education and are driven to finish their degrees.
- Giving back dedication: Students have shown a dedication to enhancing their communities.
- Leadership potential: Scholars will serve as mentors, change agents, and role models.
Benefits
The agenda is focused on:
- Support on all fronts: The scholarship includes assistance with application preparation, orientation, tuition and fees, health insurance, travel and subsistence costs, project and entrepreneurship support, as well as tuition and related costs. Additionally, scholars have access to a variety of services that promote their success both personally and academically.
- Career preparation: Students gain from activities that are specifically designed to get them ready for the workplace. In order to prepare them to pursue their goals after graduation, they engage in professional development activities during their studies, such as, but not limited to, internship and career fairs, networking opportunities with business leaders, and one-on-one career coaching.
- Leadership development: Through involvement in student organisations, volunteer work, and a range of initiatives that prepare students to be change-makers, scholars hone their leadership abilities. The Scholars participate in a variety of leadership development activities designed specifically for them during their time at CMU-Africa to ensure they are proficient in modern leadership techniques that will enable them to lead admirably.
- Giving back: Scholars participate in and lead community service projects, as well as plan and carry out projects that improve the lives of others, in order to embody the give-back philosophy of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme. They work together to advance their give-back agenda with the CMU-Africa community.
