The Buddy Bear is a sculpture in the shape of a bear, with wide arms representing a spirit of optimism and camaraderie. The Buddy Bear is a Berlin-based initiative that seeks to encourage tolerance and understanding among individuals, groups, and religions. Berlin, the capital of Germany, and the City of Windhoek have been twinning partners since 2000. In general, the bear is a symbol for Berlin. The German-Namibian friendship is symbolised by the Namibian Buddy Bear.
The German Embassy in Windhoek oversees the Namibia Buddy Bear Project and will also supply the 22-cm tall Buddy Bear.
Task Description
- The Namibian Buddy Bear will have an artistic design and colouring with a Christmas-related theme, and the Embassy is looking for a Namibian artist to do it. They will also supply the working supplies and the white bear sculpture. As long as the bear has a Christmas motif, the artist is free to create it anyway they choose.
Financial Details
- There will be a commission payment of 5.000 NAD.
Tech Information
- The Buddy Bears are manufactured by hand from plastic with glass fibre reinforcement.
- Size 22 cm
- Acrylic paint is highly advised for use.
- The sculptures of Buddy Bear have already been primed and sanded. The sculpture needs to be washed with water before being painted to get rid of any sand, grease, or dust.
- The finished bear will receive a varnishing.
Evaluation Standards
- By November 1st, 2023, the Embassy will reveal the winning artist. An agreement for the project will then be signed by the artist and the organisers. The Buddy Bear Project must be finished no later than November 7, 2023. The Embassy intends to use a picture of the finished Buddy Bear as the cover of their 2023 holiday cards; the winning artist will be given credit.
- Please be aware that participation in the tournament is not permitted for German Embassy workers. The use of legal channels is not permitted.
