Female applicants only for the Madeleine K. Albright Young Women Leaders in Public Policy programme
This programme is solely available to female undergraduate students. The Albright Young Women Leaders Programme, sponsored by the University of Kansas, will increase participants’ understanding of American democratic principles and society, culture, values, and institutions while fostering their leadership abilities in fields like critical analysis, communication, decision-making, and management. The focus of the programme will be on both historical and modern American events, including current political, social, and economic discussions in a pluralistic society. Through the thematic lens of public policy, participants will investigate how American business and private sector practises, socio-cultural norms and values, and government regulations engage and impact women. Participants will examine democratic principles and citizen participation, including civil rights, the rule of law, and freedom of expression. The programme will also look at issues like women in public service, the roles of the government, private sector, civil society, and media in the policymaking process, as well as public policy as it relates to things like diversity and inclusion, public health, economic issues, technology, and privacy. A trip to St. Louis, Missouri, a panel discussion with women leaders at Boeing, a tour of the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka, Kansas, and a self-defense course are some examples of specific programme components.
