Extended Description

The Director is accountable for:

  • In charge of overseeing the delivery of a talent management framework from workforce planning through recruitment, learning and development, performance management, and other human resources management services, ensuring integration and synergy for effectiveness and efficiency while ensuring that diversity targets can be met;
  • Drive change and reform initiatives while ensuring that HRM acts as a facilitator and dependable partner for organizational change and that the Human Resource Strategy is implemented effectively;
  • To position the Organization to proactively anticipate, plan for, and satisfy workforce needs as they develop, make sure senior management has access to important business intelligence on general workforce trends and upcoming concerns;
  • Promote and increase understanding of the strategic value of human resources management to the operation of UNESCO. embracing the nurturing and directing of staff members’ professional growth, including offering practical solutions to problems with work-life balance, promoting gender equity, and utilizing diversity as a competitive advantage;
  • Support the development of a cutting-edge and vibrant international civil service by actively participating in the UN common system on human resources reform;
  • empower a peer group of human resources experts to offer outstanding programs in support of the organization;
  • Represent the Director-General in meetings including both staff and management as well as at the UN and other fora, such as the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC), the HR Network, and the High-Level Committee on Management (HLCM), as necessary.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong managerial and leadership abilities paired with a track record of adapting to changing situations as a result of conducting and/or supervising the examination of challenging human resource challenges.
  • a track record of successfully leading, administering, and managing a sizable workforce engaged in a variety of human resources tasks.
  • comprehensive knowledge of HR theory, practical experience, and a solid comprehension of broad management ideas.
  • Strong analytical and negotiating skills, as well as excellent judgment and decision-making abilities.

DESIRABLE COMPETENCES

Education

  • courses, a degree, or training in an area linked to management.
  • Master’s degree or higher from an advanced university in a comparable discipline, such as human resources, law, public or business administration, or the humanities or social sciences.

Experience at Work

  • senior positions with international organizations, the United Nations, or organizations of a similar nature.
  • understanding of the Common System of the United Nations.
  • developed professional experience in intercultural workplaces.
  • a minimum of 15 years of steadily increasing responsibility in the field of human resources, public administration, business administration, or a closely related sector, with a large portion of that experience coming at the managerial level.
  • experience in managing initiatives or programs connected to transformation.

Languages

  • understanding of one of the four official UNESCO languages: Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish.
  • Excellent knowledge and writing abilities in either English or French, as well as solid working knowledge of the other language used by the organization.

  • The pay at UNESCO are made up of a base salary and, when appropriate, additional benefits like: a family stipend, 30 days of yearly leave, health insurance, a pension plan, etc.
  • The beginning wage for this position is roughly 181.901 US dollars per year.
