Are you a business owner or entrepreneur in the waste management or circular economy industries? Ireme Invest is asking entrepreneurs and companies in the waste and circular economy sector to apply for help and finance through its Project Preparation Facility.

Entrepreneurs and businesses with business models centred on circular economy solutions, waste reduction, and enhanced waste management, encompassing early-stage, growth-stage, or mature-stage solutions, are eligible for financing and support.

The Rwanda Green Fund, in conjunction with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), as part of the Rwandan-German Climate and Development Partnership, has made this opportunity, known as the Ireme Invest Circular Economy Programme, possible. Impact Hub Kigali will serve as the program’s facilitator.

Since waste reduction, reutilisation, and elimination can be approached from a variety of angles and at various stages of business growth, the Ireme Invest Circular Economy Programme accepts solutions from various sectors and sub-sectors within the waste and circular economy domain.

Several instances include:

  • Alternative materials to plastic
  • Reduction and use of agricultural waste reinforced earth
  • Systems of payment for waste services
  • Systems for the collection and separation of household garbage
  • Designing circular products
  • Refill and reuse techniques

  • Successful programme participants will receive additional personal on-site coaching.

  • Grant 10 participating enterprises investment funding of up to Rwf 60,000,000 based on reached milestones.

  • The 10 backed companies will be highlighted and linked up with investors in the circular economy industry.
  • Programme Components & Length

Two phases make up the Ireme Invest Circular Economy Programme:

  • Phase One: Conceptualising a Business and Ideas
  • 30 entrepreneurs will be chosen in phase one to participate in a four-month incubation programme. The initiative offers expert mentoring, workshops, coaching, and the chance to submit a proposal and be one of the 10 programme participants to earn money, among other benefits.
  • Second phase: Financing and demo day
  • Depending on the maturity or nature of the firm or idea, the top ten entrepreneurs and businesses in phase two will each get grant money of up to Rwf 60 million. At the Ireme Invest Circular Economy Programme Demo Day, these business owners and entrepreneurs will also have the chance to network with investors in the industry and receive additional, customised business help.

Eligibility

  • Entrepreneurs and companies in the waste and circular economy sectors are welcome to apply for the Ireme Invest Circular Economy Programme.
  • Active involvement in the training, including obligatory attendance at workshops and coaching sessions, is necessary to qualify. Grant funding will only be given to participants who have been actively involved in the programme and have submitted a strong proposal.
  • The programme runs from December 2023 through April 2024, a four-month period. In April 2024, programme participants will be asked to submit funding requests for company plans.
  • In May 2024, the names of the 10 grant recipients will be revealed. These grantees will then get three months of specialised business support to use the money well.
  • The business or entrepreneur must meet the requirements listed below:
  • Operating in the fields of trash and the circular economy
  • Operating at the moment in Rwanda
  • Able to fully participate in the programme.
