Objective

  • By fostering cultural exchanges, such as by organising and sponsoring symposia and seminars, TIFO aims to improve global awareness of Japan.

Grant Project Categories

  • TIFO funds initiatives that advance global understanding of Japan and classifies them into the following four groups:
  • Symposiums and seminars that advance global comprehension of Japan
  • Cultural initiatives that improve global Japan understanding
  • Study and research that advance global comprehension of Japan
  • Programmes to develop future specialists who will aid in advancing global understanding of Japan

eligibility requirements

  • Applicants
  • Nonprofit institutions
  • Organisations that currently have or will soon have a bank account under their legal name for the transfer of grants.
  • Projects that fall under the aforementioned project areas and the TIFO’s goal. The project is intended to increase global understanding of Japan.
  • Projects that can be finished in one fiscal year (from April 1 of one year to March 31 of the following year), or a distinct component of a continuing project.

Unqualified cases

  • The following are not acceptable and ineligible:
  • applications made by people
  • application for a one-time funding for a project that will last longer than three years.
  • Application for reimbursement of travel costs for a prolonged stay in Japan

Points to consider

  • Each year, submit an application for projects with a period of up to three years. Every year, the Selection Committee will assess the project and determine whether or not to continue supporting it.
  • Applicants who have received support for three years in a row are no longer eligible for support under the same programme in that fourth year. De-emphasizing recurrent long-term funding to the same beneficiaries allows TIFO to offer assistance to as many applicants as feasible. A guiding concept of TIFO’s grant policy is not to issue funds for four straight years, with the exception of exceptional initiatives when TIFO sees compelling grounds for ongoing assistance for over three years. They do not view such applications as ineligible, but they have significantly lower chances of being funded.
  • The grant’s entire sum must be applied only to carrying out the designated project’s objectives. Grant monies may only be utilised to cover costs that are expressly included in the application. TIFO grant amounts are calculated based on comprehensive estimates included in applications.
