Categories
- When entering the photo contest, only one category can be chosen. The following categories’ entries will be taken into consideration:
- People and Nature: Images of people interacting and relating to their surroundings. Images can show a person or people in a natural environment or show the effects of people on the environment, such as the impact of a building or other man-made structure. Images can also show how people interact with other people, animals, or plants in the natural world.
- Images of any plant or fungus in its natural habitat are included in the category “Plants and Fungi.” Images should emphasise their crucial ecological roles, distinctive characteristics, or stunning beauty. includes lichen and fungus like mushrooms, as well as flowers, trees, bushes, and vegetation in general.
- Mammals: Visualisations of mammals in their natural surroundings that represent their behaviours, habitats, or interactions with other species or other animals. It is prohibited to take pictures of domestic animals, animals kept in captivity, or animals in zoos or on commercial game farms.
- Birds: Images of birds in their natural surroundings that capture their behaviours, habitats, or interactions with other species of animals or plants. It is prohibited to take pictures of domestic animals, animals kept in captivity, or animals in zoos or on commercial game farms.
- Illustrations depicting reptiles and amphibians in their natural habitats that represent their behaviours, habitats, or interactions with other species are known as reptiles and amphibians or reptiles and amphibians. includes, but is not limited to, crocodilians, frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, snakes, lizards, turtles, and tortoises. It is prohibited to take pictures of domestic animals, animals kept in captivity, or animals in zoos or on commercial game farms.
- Illustrations of insects and arachnids in their natural habitats that depict their habits, habitats, or interactions with other species are referred to as “insects and arachnids.” includes, but is not limited to, grasshoppers, spiders, scorpions, butterflies, beetles, and bees.
The term “underwater life” refers to representations of aquatic life in their natural settings that depict their behaviours, habitats, or relationships with other species or with humans, and that emphasise the significance of aquatic ecosystems from an ecological standpoint. Images may depict water creatures or plants as well as interactions in more expansive ecosystems like coral reefs and coastal mangroves. - Lands: Photographs of hills, mountains, deserts, or woods. Images may feature people or animals, but the land should take centre stage.
- Oceans: Visual representations of the larger ocean. includes pictures of the waves and other ocean life that are either above or below the water’s surface. Images may feature people or animals, but the ocean should be the main subject.
- Freshwater: Photographs of freshwater systems and bodies. Images should depict waterfalls, ponds, rivers, lakes, or the life they sustain. Possibly depicting landscapes or wildlife, such as freshwater creatures or plants, or their relationships with one another and their surroundings.
- Images illustrating the causes and effects of climate change and capturing how our environment is changing. might show the visual effects of climate change, extreme weather, how the environment is evolving and how humans fit within that environment. Images can show attempts at climate resilience and mitigation in addition to showing the effects of climate change.
- Aerial photography: Photos that highlight the patterns of land or water while portraying our environment from a bird’s eye perspective. Drones and aircraft can be used to capture images. The photographer is required to follow with local laws and ordinances governing the use of drones and aircraft.
Prizes
According to The Conservancy’s sole discretion, all award recipients may be mentioned on its digital platforms. The Conservancy will also present the following awards, along with any appropriate corporate award provider(s):
- $5,000 USD will be awarded to one grand prize winner. Kit for taking pictures or gift card for taking pictures, as decided by The Conservancy in its sole discretion.
- One (1) $1,000 USD Amazon, Mercado Libre, or Alibaba gift card will be awarded to each of the twelve (12) category first place winners (one (1) each category), as chosen by The Conservancy in its sole discretion.
- One (1) $500 USD Amazon, Mercado Libre, or Alibaba gift card will be awarded to each of the twelve (12) category second place winners (one (1) per category), as chosen by The Conservancy in its sole discretion.
- One (1) $250 USD Amazon, Mercado Libre, or Alibaba gift card will be awarded to each of the twelve (12) category third place winners (one (1) per category), as chosen by The Conservancy in its sole discretion.
Eligibility
- Open to all photographers, both professional and amateur, who have attained the legal age of majority in their place of residency at the time of admission.
- You cannot enter if you are a trustee, board member, employee, intern, partner, or a member of that person’s immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, children, and household members).
Application
On September 29, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. GMT, the photo competition will expire. After the Entry Period, entries cannot be accepted.
