Background

The Venture Fund of UNICEF was created expressly to provide funding for early-stage, open-source technology that can help children. The Venture Fund’s primary goal is to locate “clusters” or portfolios of projects centered on developing technology so UNICEF can influence markets, as well as learn about and direct these innovations for children. They fund projects in emerging technological fields like blockchain, augmented and virtual reality, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, which collectively account for $100 billion in annual revenue.

The Venture Fund is especially interested in finding solutions that:

  • Addressing issues will hasten children’s progress.
  • are designed to work well in low-resource settings (such as those with poor connectivity or constrained mobile access).
  • Instead of fostering inequality, put your attention on eradicating it.
  • deliver in a variety of languages, including more obscure ones.

Funding

They are providing early-stage, for-profit technology start-ups that can better the lives of children with up to US$100K in equity-free capital.

Eligibility

  • They are seeking for you if your startup makes use of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, drones, blockchain, or extended reality.
  • They invite you to submit if your product is registered in one of UNICEF’s program countries, has a working prototype with proven outcomes, and is (or is eligible to be) open source licensed.
  • Startups with female founders or leaders are urged to apply.
  • Startups founded by or co-designed by youth are encouraged to apply.
  • Submission of applications is required in English.

Application

The application deadline is October 20, 2023, at 11:59 PM (CET). Late applications won’t be taken into consideration.
