Deadline: the ninth of October 2023 | TWAS Visiting Expert Programme (Available Funding) 2023
For the TWAS Visiting Expert Programme 2023, applications are now being accepted. Internationally famous scientists are encouraged under the initiative to visit universities in developing nations, particularly those in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The program’s goal is to give institutions and research groups in developing nations—especially those with little outside contacts—the chance to forge long-lasting connections with global experts in science and so contribute to the development of capacity-building in their nation.
In accordance with the program, potential host universities may request the participation in research and training of highly esteemed scientists from disciplines other than physics and mathematics. The visiting expert will be required to work closely with the faculty and students of the host university in an effort to develop new research avenues or boost the institution’s current operations. The guest expert may also do research, supervise students, provide lectures and seminars to research students, and negotiate potential joint ventures. A minimum of two weeks should be spent during the visit at the host institution. Successful visit requests will be taken into consideration in the following year(s). The visiting expert and the host university shall submit thorough reports detailing the impact of the visit on the educational and research programs of the host institution after the visit is over.
Cost
The most direct economy class travel (round-trip) will be provided by TWAS to the visiting expert, with local costs to be covered by the host institution.
Eligibility
Only individuals who have achieved global renown in their scientific specialties will be given consideration for financing under this program.
Nominations of women will be especially encouraged because the initiative aims to provide equal opportunity.
Application
Institutions who want to be taken into account for this program must submit an online application. The following documents must be uploaded while completing the online application:
- Short CV of the Visiting Expert (maximum 10 pages) and list of publications; letter from the Visiting Expert outlining the research and teaching program at the host institute with which he or she could assist (template available in the online form); and supporting statement from the head of the host institution (template available in the online form).
- Please be aware that applicants are limited to one TWAS and OWSD program application per calendar year. In that year, applicants are ineligible to participate in the TWAS Visiting Professor programs at any other university. One exception: The institution’s head may still apply for another program even though they have invited an outside scholar to offer their expertise as part of the TWAS Visiting Professor programs.
