Description (Principal Investment Officer | world bank)

IFC—a member of the World Bank Group—is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. We work in more than 100 countries, using our capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities in developing countries. In fiscal year 2022, IFC committed a record $32.8 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries, leveraging the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity as economies grapple with the impacts of global compounding crises.

The Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) Group is a key industry group at IFC, responsible for managing a large part of IFC’s overall business in terms of investment volume and capital at risk. MAS engages in a wide range of sub-sectors including light and heavy manufacturing, agribusiness, health, education, property, retail and tourism, and other areas, with both investment and advisory services delivered to IFC’s clients through IFC’s global network. Investment in the health and education sectors (H&E) has been a profitable and impactful business for IFC and has grown into a global portfolio of over [US$3.9] billion. The work of the H&E team in Latin America and the Caribbean region (LAC) has been a major part of this success.

IFC’s Health and Education team within MAS supports the World Bank Group’s aim of improving access to efficient, reliable, and affordable health and education services in emerging markets. Health and education are basic human needs, but they remain beyond the reach of many people in developing countries. IFC supports health care and life-sciences companies by providing financing, sharing industry knowledge, raising management and clinical standards, helping shape government policy, and supporting public-private collaboration. In education, IFC helps private enterprises complement the work of the public sector and create more opportunities for children, youth, and working adults.

The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly shown us that building a resilient health system and increasing access to quality education services remain a challenge for many emerging markets and has underlined the urgent need for stronger complementarity of the public and private sectors in health and education, especially in the Latin America and the Caribbean region (LAC).

The MAS LAC team is looking to recruit a Principal Investment Officer with considerable experience in emerging markets to lead our business development efforts in the Health and Education sectors in the region.  The position will be based in either Sao Paulo, Brazil, Bogota, Colombia or Panama City, Panama.
