To apply for STEG Larger Research Grants 2023, go here. The fourth request for proposals for Larger Research Grants (LRGs) is open to submissions from STEG and the Yale Research Initiative on Innovation and Scale (Y-RISE). The lead investigator and co-investigators from partner institutions may receive funding from LRGs for research help, data collection and/or purchase, and teaching buyouts, among other appropriate compensation practices.

Broad systemic patterns and processes of structural change and growth for low-income nations, in a comparative sense across time or geography, or more narrowly defined topics relating to one or more of the following six research categories, may be the focus of research.

Measurements, data, and conceptualization

  • Agricultural productivity and sectoral gaps; Firms, frictions and spillovers, and industrial policy; Labor, domestic production, and structural change at the level of households;
  • spatial and commercial frictions;
  • Public investment and political economics.
  • They also encourage research that touches on Y-RISE’s interest in comprehending large-scale policy initiatives, paying particular emphasis to studies that aim to improve our understanding of the impacts of electrification and fall under one or more of the following themes:

The contribution of power dependability to economic growth;

  • Complementarities between other investments and electricity;
  • Migration and urbanization in the context of spatially inequitable electrification;
  • General themes:
  • macroeconomic, growth, and welfare implications of extensive initiatives
  • Networks, spillovers, and equilibrium effects
  • Institutional capability and the application of policy
  • programs’ political and economic effects
  • aggregated data and external validity

Grant

Up to £100,000 in larger research grants (LRGs) can be given out.

Eligibility

  • Applications that suggest a collaboration between academics from lower- and higher-income nations are encouraged. Open to researchers from all around the world.
  • We are currently unable to accept proposals for projects that feature researchers or members of the research team who are based at Russian institutions due to the current political climate and the imposition of economic sanctions against numerous Russian organizations by Western governments.
  • Principal investigators should hold a PhD or be enrolled in a PhD program at the time they submit an application to an LRG call. Despite the fact that co-investigators are not required to meet any formal qualifications, co-investigators on STEG-funded studies typically hold a PhD or are enrolled in a PhD program. The complete research team’s qualifications, knowledge, and experience will all be taken into consideration while assessing the proposal.

Criteria for Evaluation & Selection

The following criteria are used for evaluation and selection:

  • The caliber of the suggested research
  • Accordance with policy
  • The proposal’s viability and credibility
  • worth the money
  • Contributions to the field’s expansion
