Overview
Through a series of competitive funding calls, the provision of technical support, and the creation of a community of practice, REDAA stimulates research, innovation, and action in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
To promote initiatives that are nature-friendly, boost local livelihoods, and combat the effects of climate change, REDAA funds may be focused on enhancing evidence, using innovative methods, or building governance structures.
Project funds of between £200,000 and £500,000 will be made available for initiatives lasting between two and four years during the first financing cycle, which began on June 14, 2023. For further information, see the REDAA website.
What will be done with the fund?
Initiative types
- In order to enable people and nature to coexist in times of climatic, resource, and financial insecurity, REDAA will fund interdisciplinary, locally-led projects in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
Visit the REDAA website for further information and application instructions. - In order to strengthen their data, resources, civic engagement, and governance capabilities, locally-led initiatives (organizations with strong systems assisting Indigenous Peoples and local communities work) will get support from REDAA.
- Every REDAA-supported project must show how it positively addresses issues like gender equality and social inclusion, as well as integrated action for the environment and the climate. They should each concentrate on one or more of the priority themes.
Such locally-led projects will be planned to accomplish goals particular to the environment in which the nonprofits leading them operate. The following thematic priorities will be addressed by them:
- Local research and research capacity
- Analyses of resources and land usage
- model businesses
- Financial instruments
- Systems of the inclusive government
- Nations, vistas, and ecosystems
- Initiatives in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa will all get support from the REDAA program. For a complete list of nations that are qualified, see REDAA Strategy.
- Initiatives, such as those that aim to address the transboundary drivers of environmental degradation, may operate in more than one nation.
REDAA promotes action to preserve, restore, and/or manage sustainably terrestrial, freshwater, and coastal ecosystems in specific ecologies and landscape types (see REDAA Strategy).
However, REDAA does not specify a set of particular landscapes where it intends to promote efforts. Instead, it invites potential grantees to justify their decision about location and operation size in their proposals.
Organizations
Initiatives financed by REDAA will have non-profit organizations as the lead organizations, who may subcontract additional qualifying partners. Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia will be home to the vast majority of the main organizations.
A small number of lead organizations located outside of these areas might be chosen for REDAA assistance if they can show that they have solid ties with locally-led organizations.
The REDAA website has more information on eligibility.
