Media Loves Technology Contest

In search of the top digital ideas for creative and excellent journalism, MEDIA LOVES TECH. This competition, which was started by DW Akademie, Germany’s premier international media development organization, is open to journalists, start-ups, project leaders, creative individuals, developers, designers, members of civil society, and any other person or organization that seeks to contribute to a high-quality media landscape in Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria through innovation.

A €10.000 cash prize is given to the Tunisian journalist who comes up with the best digital media invention.

A project between the DW Akademie and Tunisian NGO Al Khatt is called MEDIA LOVES TECH. German aid, specifically the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, is funding this project.

The competition’s goal


MEDIA LOVES TECH’s goal is to find and facilitate the adoption of practical solutions to the issues facing the media and journalism in general in Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria.

To do this, MEDIA LOVES TECH is using the cutting-edge concept of crowdsourcing, which refers to the cooperation of connected internet users in the creation of services, ideas, or content. The process of sharing information and expertise in a way that encourages the generation of new ideas and creative thinking is known as crowdsourcing.

Competition’s themes


MEDIA LOVES TECH is often seeking for:

Projects that help journalists and media professionals do their jobs more easily (data processing, organization, and visualization) are solutions to the issue of limited access to information.
Suggestions to enhance public participation, including audience measurement, engagement, and feedback

Requirements

  • The competition is open to anyone who wishes to contribute through an idea or by offering their skills to the development of innovative and digital journalism in Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria. Participants may be creative people, journalists, media professionals, entrepreneurs, designers, developers, members of civil society, or any other individual or organization.
  • All individuals who are over the age of 18 at the time of their registration are entitled to participate in the competition (hence, “eligible participants”). Journalists, programmers, designers, data scientists, creative types, techies, and employees of companies are all invited to submit ideas or apply to join a team.

How can I take part?


Between June 1 and July 15, 2023, participants who meet the eligibility requirements must:

  • Join the site at medialovestech.com and select the signup link.
  • Complete the form and choose a time for the interview.
  • Create a team with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 members.
  • Create a pitch deck for a concept based on one of the suggested themes. The group can perform preliminary design, mock-up, or prototype.
  • Make a project proposal that will be successful, in whole or in part, in one or more of the target nations (Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria).
