The Carrington Fellowship Entrepreneurship Program equips aspiring and developing student entrepreneurs in tertiary institutions with the know-how, contacts, and networks necessary to innovate, scale, and adapt to the changing business environment, with the goal of fostering youth employment and economic development.

The U.S. Consulate General, Lagos, introduced the dynamic youth-based Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative (CYFI) in 2011.
Given that young people between the ages of 15 and 35 make up over 60% of the population of Nigeria and account for a sizeable share of the unemployed, youth unemployment is a serious concern for the nation. University students make up the majority of this population. They offer their distinctive perspectives to drive innovation and handle business concerns, but they are constrained by resources, knowledge, and a supportive environment.
Mission
to provide Tertiary Institution students with training in fundamental business management skills and to link them with mentors for the growth, advice, and scalability of their businesses.
Vision
to design effective entrepreneurship programs that can create a supportive environment for young people’s entrepreneurial development in order to address the issue of youth unemployment in Nigeria.
Conditions for Eligibility
Candidates should be:
- College and university students
- maximum age range: 18 to 35 years
- able to devote 3–4 hours per week from August to November to the program
- Only available to pupils attending tertiary institutions in Lagos State Application Methodology: There will be explanations of the application and selection procedures (Shortlisted applications for interviews will be qualified). Successful candidates will be admitted to the program following the interview stage.)
