Regarding the Grant

The Global Youth Action Fund, an award available to any student or student group ages 12 through 19, has been established by the IB to broaden the impact of the Dr. Siva Kumari MYP Innovators’ Grant and as a pathway to action for the Festival of Hope. Expanding the grant funds will highlight more outstanding work being done by young people around the world, both at IB World Schools and outside of them.

The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) must be supported by each project, which will be judged according to the following selection criteria:

  • Impact: Does the project show a definite improvement in one of the SDGs? Projects with the greatest impact will be given preference.
  • What stage of development (concept, in-development, scaling, or established) is the project in? Projects that are further advanced in the development process and have the potential for scaling will be given preference.
  • Collaboration: Will or is there potential for other students to be included in this project? Projects that engage more youth shall, if possible, be given preference.
  • Applications for school support will need one teacher referral form. Students with teacher recommendations that show both their support for the initiative and their trust in the students involved will be given preference.

Students who are chosen will get:

  • Grant support of up to $3,000 USD, subject to project requirements;
  • an 8-week social entrepreneurship training program offered online by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network;
  • mentoring and connections to other student prize recipients and social entrepreneurial leaders.

Eligibility

  • The application process is open to all secondary school students between the ages of 12 and 19.
  • Students may apply as individuals or in groups, although we strongly advise them to work together whenever possible.
  • Students must be enrolled in a secondary school at the time of the application deadline, not necessarily at an IBWS.

How to Apply

The following components are required for all applications to be considered:

Application form: Students must submit a filled-out application form together with the accompanying supporting documentation:

  • Pitch deck – Students should create a pitch deck of no more than eight slides, which should include an introduction to the applicant or applicants, the issue they are attempting to address and the proposed solution, as well as a business model (how you intend to use the funding and why this is the best approach);
  • Pitch film that has been recorded — Students should produce a pitch video that outlines their proposal and justifies their selection that lasts no more than three minutes. The video does not have to include their pitch deck.
  • One instructor recommendation per project is required of the students.
  • Late applications won’t be taken into consideration. After the final deadline, applicants will have 72 hours to submit instructor recommendations.

Application deadline is June 20.
