Regarding the Grant

Through its advocacy and media efforts that emphasize the feminism objectives of women and girls in the nation, UN Women has continuously amplified voices from the ground. The “Generation Equality Forum” (GEF) Program of UN Women is dedicated to enhancing the significance of grassroots organizations and networks of solidarity for women, youth, and other marginalized groups. The initiative supports the goals and leadership of grassroots women’s and youth organizations, particularly those from underprivileged communities that deal with prejudice and institutional impediments. The Generation Equality Forum (GEF), whose national convener is UN Women, aims to promote youth-led organizations and networks, young women’s and girls’ human rights organizations, and young gender equality activists on a worldwide scale. At the local, national, subnational, and international levels, it is fostering safe and enabling environments. A new, ground-breaking, multigenerational campaign called “Generation

Equality: Realizing women’s rights for an equal future” is part of the GEF advocacy initiatives’ promise to address the unfinished business of empowering women.

Feminist Movement and Leadership Building has been designated as one of the major priorities in UN Women’s global Generation Equality Framework. The Generation Equality Campaign’s main elements are:

  • Building ownership and action within government for strong policy commitments towards eradicating violence against women and girls in all its forms. Increasing youth and women’s leadership and participation in intergovernmental processes and global agenda-setting conversations.
  • In India, the initial stage of the Generation Equality Forum made investments in the Leadership Action Coalitions and the Feminist Movement to inspire conversations between generations locally and globally. By creating a Task Force with 40 young members, 300 national youth activists, and a constituency of more than 500 youth-led groups, youth engagement in the GEF process has been institutionalized.
  • The inclusion of youth representation in the GEF governance structure as members of the Core Group, Action Coalitions Working Group, Civil Society Advisory Group, and Multi-Stakeholder Steering Committee has further enhanced youth leadership.

The UN Women’s India Country Office (ICO) is requesting non-governmental organizations to submit ideas for a grant toward Young Feminist Leadership Building for its second phase, building on the successful implementation of the previous phase.

With an emphasis on youth and policy advocacy, UN Women will continue to enhance feminist leadership and movement building in the following phase, which spans two years from 2023 to 2024, with the following goals:

Goals:

  • Enhancing young feminists’ abilities to take on leadership roles in promoting gender equality and growing a variety of feminist projects geared toward leadership development.
  • In order to ensure their full participation and involvement in national-level dialogues to advocate for accountability and prompt action on access to rights and entitlements as equal citizens, the proposed program will effectively mobilize civil society, including youth-led networks, women’s organizations, and other marginalized groups and stakeholders.
  • This will initially include developing feminist legal theory as well as feminist analysis of laws, policies, systems, and programs for women’s leadership and participation. On a different level, this will entail the development and mobilization of feminist models through partnerships and collaborations between groups led by young feminists and those tackling problems with inclusive governance.

Through the GEF, UN Women will offer programmatic and technical assistance to the chosen organization(s) in order to create, plan, and implement feminist leadership interventions with the goal of Leaving No One Behind (LNOB).

In its initial stage, the program improved the ecosystem of 100 partners for youth leaders, created cross-linkages, and promoted conversation about developing feminist youth leadership.
