The Volvo Environment Prize has grown to be one of the most prestigious environmental rewards in the scientific community since it was first given out in 1990.
A non-profit foundation independently bestows the Prize. Candidates are initially screened and assessed by a Scientific Committee. The Prize Jury’s final decision on the prize laureate is made by scientists who are well-known around the world.
Requirements:
- Among the winners are many great biologists and environmental scientists, although the award’s parameters are broad.
- The goal is to advance scientific inquiry and inventions that, broadly speaking, pertain to environmental and sustainable development.
- In order to better understand the way to sustainability, prior laureates have included economists, urban development professionals, energy experts, poverty opponents, and many others.
Prize:
- A hand-crafted diploma, a glass sculpture, and a financial reward of SEK 1.5 million (about EUR 150,000 or USD 160,000) are all included in the Prize, which is given out annually.
- Each year in November, Stockholm hosts the award presentation.
