The CFLI is a program created to assist small-scale, high-impact initiatives in developing nations that fit with the engagement priorities of Global Affairs Canada.

Projects produced and created mostly by local partners are targeted under the initiative. The relevant Canadian embassy or high commission chooses and approves projects. By strengthening connections and assisting local initiatives, the CFLI also supports good relations between Canada and recipient nations and their civic communities.
Thematic Objectives
Each project must be in accordance with at least one of the CFLI’s thematic priorities.
- Diversity, democracy, upholding human rights, and the rule of law all fall under inclusive government.
- With an emphasis on averting conflicts and fostering peace, there is peace and security.
- Growth that benefits everyone, including women’s economic rights, respectable employment opportunities, and entrepreneurship, as well as investing in the most vulnerable and underprivileged people and preserving economic gains.
- gender parity and women’s and girls’ empowerment.
- Actions related to the environment and climate are centered on water management as well as adaptation and mitigation.
Grant
The typical CFLI contribution is from $30,000 to $60,000 CAD (the maximum allocation for a project to qualify for CFLI is $100,000 CAD).
Eligibility
Receivers who qualify include:
- Community-based, not-for-profit, and local non-governmental groups
- Local academic institutions engaged in regional initiatives, global nongovernmental groups engaged in regional development initiatives,
- Institutions, organizations, and agencies working on local development projects on an intergovernmental, international,
- Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit groups engaged in local development work, as well as municipal, regional, or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country.
Application
Only submissions that use the appropriate application form and include the necessary budget document will be taken into consideration.
