The AWARD Leadership Program for Emerging African Women in Science is now accepting applications, according to an announcement from African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD). 24 women from 10 different countries in Africa made up the first cohort of the AWARD Leadership Program for Emerging African Women in Science, which was implemented in 2021. A second cohort of young women in science who will take part in an improved, customized leadership program are being sought out by the AWARD Leadership Program.
The following topics will be covered in greater depth by participants:
- • Effective leadership styles and developing their leadership potential
- •How to define their career path and use networks to advance their careers
- • How to create personal brands to increase confidence when pitching their research ideas to potential funders and collaborators
- •The necessary tools and skills to successfully manage teams, navigate organizational dynamics, forge alliances, and take risks
•How to overcome gender dynamics and use tested techniques to negotiate and solve problems successfully
Benefits
- The six-month virtual program for collaborative leadership is specially created to provide participants the abilities and self-assurance to lead and develop. On a variety of subjects, including leadership and management, communication, and gender-responsive research, participants will attend immersive training sessions. Through group coaching, the program is further designed to promote peer learning, giving participants the opportunity to benefit from one another’s knowledge and experience when addressing leadership difficulties.
- While prioritizing their participation in various learning forums provided by AWARD and its partners, the Leadership Program will also introduce participants to cutting-edge tools for creating career roadmaps and managing complicated situations.
- Following satisfactory attendance and completion of all training sessions, participants will receive a certificate of completion.
Conditions for Eligibility
- •Applicants must have a minimum of a B.Sc. degree from an accredited university •Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to growth, clearly articulate their career goals, and demonstrate their ability to take on leadership responsibility.
- •The program is open to high-potential female applicants under the age of 35 who work in science and have at least five years of full-time sector experience.
Only applicants from countries in sub-Saharan Africa are allowed to apply. - Participants must have a working grasp of the English language because it is the language of teaching and delivery. This program does not offer language assistance. Applicants must submit their applications by June 16, 2023, 23:59 EAT.
