For senior and upcoming leaders in Africa’s agriculture industry, the Advanced Leadership Programme (ALP) of the Centre for African Leaders in Agriculture (CALA) offers a collaborative, practical, and personalized experience. The program is initially open to participants from eight countries (see eligibility) and is designed for people leading and directly implementing particular country-level agriculture programs.

Script Format


Through the following activities, participants in the 16-month leadership program for experienced professionals will strengthen their leadership, cooperation, and management skills in a unique way.

  • Learning experiences that are both virtual and physical (where possible) to develop leadership abilities for Action Learning Projects directly related to participants’ employment goals and goals for nation-building
  • coaching on-the-job and abroad
  • Sessions of ongoing peer accountability
  • involvement in twice-yearly leadership forums
  • being a member of the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF)
  • study of ‘Game-changer’ case studies in African agriculture
  • Peer learning and networking opportunities with cohorts of participants from around the continent both in person and virtually.

Eligibility


Leaders implementing national agriculture initiatives:

  • Leaders who are in charge of advancing agriculture’s flagship initiatives and key projects, whether they are in the public or private sector or among civil society organizations.
  • Must be actively employed or working in the governmental, private, or civil sectors (associations or organizations representing civil society).
  • Participants from the following nations will make up the first two cohorts: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
  • Recognition & Certificate
  • A degree in Advanced Leadership Program for Africa’s Food Security & Sustainability will be awarded to program graduates.
  • be acknowledged as delivery leaders across all the continental platforms and occasions hosted by AGRA, including at the local level.
  • Join a prestigious network of transformative leaders who offer one another help in achieving national priorities continuously.
  • Programme Budget and Sponsorship
  • Due to funding supplied to AGRA by the German Development Cooperation through the KfW Development Bank, participant expenses are entirely covered.
  • Beginning in 2022, all Leadership Forums and graduation ceremonies will incur travel expenses. Due to COVID-19 constraints, the 2021 leadership forum will be held virtually, thus participants are expected to cover their own internet access charges.
  • Please be aware that the AGRF 2021 attendance expenses will be entirely self-sponsored (or supported by your institution) and that CALA does not offer travel reimbursement for attendees.

Timeline:

Cohort 3 applications are already being accepted and will remain open until June 9, 2023.
Selection announced by the beginning of JulyBeginning in August 2023 is Cohort 3.
