The Board has also designated 50% of the funds to the category Saving Lives at Birth in Low-Resource Settings because it considers there is a unique opportunity to aid in saving lives at birth in these environments. The Foundation, which works separately from the Laerdal firms and has the same aim as the Laerdal corporation to save lives, is governed by the Norwegian Foundation Act.

Regarding the Grant

The UN Sustainability Goal no. 3, which aims to reduce both maternal and newborn mortality by 2/3 from 2010 to 2030, has been allocated 50% of the yearly appropriations for programs with a practical focus.

The Board will give projects involving day-of-birth interventions, such as preventing stillbirth deaths, top priority. Applications that have the potential to document long-term practical usefulness and promote innovations in other regions or nations will be given priority over those that only have local effects.

Applications pertaining to are especially encouraged:

  • Innovative strategies for more effective implementation and education
  • Collaborative projects involving the expansion of tested ideas
  • Projects being carried out in Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Bangladesh, India, and Nepal, the Foundation’s priority nations.
  • The Board anticipates awarding grants of up to USD 50,000 to a maximum of 20 projects per year, with an average grant of roughly USD 30,000. The Board will carefully assess whether the provided budget is realistic and whether it includes any items that, based on this information, the Foundation is not sponsoring.
  • The Board will take into account the likelihood that the project can be completed with the necessary additional money from other sources if the overall project costs should exceed the award. Up to 10% of the project’s institutional overhead costs may be paid.

Other considerations include the applicant’s or applicants’ practical experience in dealing with the unique difficulties typically encountered in low-resource settings and the applicant’s or applicants’ strong commitment to participating alongside local partners.

Prioritizing the projects before submission is advised if an institution intends to submit applications from many applicants.

How to Apply:

There are two application deadlines each year: April 1 and October 1. The Foundation’s application platform must be used to submit all applications.
