Qualified individuals from various academic areas have the chance to get professional exposure within the AU through the full-time internship program. PURPOSE:
The program seeks to develop participants’ personal and professional abilities and expose them to the operations of the AU at an early stage of their professional careers. It gives participants a chance to practice their skills in a variety of relevant professions while learning about other cultures. Participants who are adequately knowledgeable and skilled in the subject matter will lend their support to the AU and possibly act as a breeding ground for future African leaders.
- Actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program for at least the last year OR
- Must hold a Bachelor’s degree or a graduate-level certificate (Masters) in a relevant academic discipline;
- Be citizens of an African Union Member State.
- Be full-time students who are currently enrolled in their last year of undergraduate or graduate study.
- Have a working knowledge of at least one of the four official languages of the African Union: Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese.
- At the time of choosing, you must be no older than 32 years old.
- Exhibit the highest level of morality and honesty.
- Have never been convicted of a serious crime, with the exception of minor traffic infractions.
- Prior employment is not necessary for internship positions.
Rules and Regulations
- The AU has no financial obligation to the interns; they are responsible for making their own travel plans, paying for housing, and covering other living costs.
- AU will make a good faith attempt to help the interns acquire entry and residency visas.
- The internship will only be permitted once for three (3) months, renewable once for each candidate, and • Interns will not be entitled to any travel reimbursement.
- At the expense of the Commission, interns are not entitled to medical transport or medical evacuation to and from their internship location. As a result, interns must obtain personal insurance coverage for the whole internship.
Required skills

Good interpersonal skills, - proficiency in one of the official working languages of the AU (French, English, Portuguese, Arabic, Spanish, or Kiswahili), and fluency in another AU language(s) are all advantages.
- Proficiency in one of the AU officials’ working languages (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point) and fluency in another AU language(s) is an added advantage.

In addition to their online application, applicants must submit the following supporting documents:
- A motivation letter outlining their goals for the internship program • A copy of their passport or national identification card in good standing • Certified copies of their academic transcripts • A current curriculum vitae (CV) • A letter of recommendation for the internship from the school they are currently enrolled in • Upon successfully submitting their application, applicants will receive an email confirming their application.
