In June 2023, the 8-week program will begin. It is intended for journalists and media specialists from modest newsrooms (fewer than 50 staff members).

The goal of the Academy is to assist small newsrooms that wish to learn how AI may be used to improve their journalism, in keeping with JournalismAI’s purpose to make the potential of AI more accessible for news organizations globally.

The program combines chances for participant debate with a series of seminars delivered by specialists working at the interface between journalism and artificial intelligence. Participants will also be assisted in the creation of resources that can aid their organizations’ adoption of AI both during and after the program.

Thanks to the generosity of the Google News Initiative, which has been supporting JournalismAI since 2019, the Academy is FREE for chosen participants.

Requirements

The Academy is intended for media professionals and journalists who work in smaller newsrooms (those with fewer than 50 people).

Participation in the Academy requires proficiency in English.

  • The JournalismAI Academy will choose 20 participants from the Asia-Pacific area (GMT+5 to GMT+12) and 20 people from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (GMT-1 to GMT+4) for 2023.
  • The ideal applicant works for a news organization that has begun investigating how to employ these new technologies and already has a basic understanding of the potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
  • Different newsroom titles will be taken into consideration for candidates, but during the selection process, emphasis will be placed on those who can show they have the influence necessary to help their news organization strategically implement AI to address pressing journalistic issues.
  • Other than a steady WiFi connection to take part in the live events, there are no technical requirements for attending the Academy or any knowledge of coding. We welcome applications from media professionals and journalists of all backgrounds.
