Ten-month fellowships are available through the French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Program at the seven institutes located in Aix-Marseille, the Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, Paris, and Rennes. It encourages submissions from top-tier international academics and researchers who wish to conduct cutting-edge research in France.

FIAS is offering 40 fellowship slots for the 2024–2025 academic year, including four in Aix-Marseille, three in the Loire Valley (Orléans–Tours), ten in Lyon, three in Montpellier, four in Nantes, thirteen in Paris, and three in Rennes.
The call is open to all research subjects and disciplines within the social sciences and humanities (SSH). Research initiatives in the arts and in other sciences that call for a robust contact and dialogue with the SSH are also acceptable. Priorities in science for some host IAS must be fully considered before application.
The FIAS fellows will have the freedom to plan their research as they see appropriate while taking advantage of the assistance and supportive environment provided by the IAS, which is distinguished by a diversified cohort of fellows and by tight ties to the regional research centers and labs.
Conditions for Eligibility
- Outstanding researchers at all career stages, from postdoctoral researchers to senior scientists, are given fellowships by FIAS. A PhD and two years of research experience are the minimum requirements at the time of application. Scholars with a Master’s degree and six years of full-time research experience will be given an exception (PhD training will not be taken into account for calculating experience).
- The FIAS Fellowship Programme accepts applications from researchers from all nations, although they must have spent no more than 12 months in France in the three years preceding to the application deadline.

SELECTION
The international independent peer review process is used to undertake the highly competitive, merit-based scientific selection.
- From July through October 2023, there will be peer reviews.
- Pre-selection by the FIAS Selection Committee in November 2023.
- January–February 2024: IAS Scientific Advisory Boards will make their selections.
- Results communication in March 2024
