The Jamlab Accelerator Programme (JAP), a six-month incubator for media and journalism innovators, is located in sub-Saharan Africa. The program offers a special chance to expedite your initiative and gives you the resources, contacts, and assistance needed to turn your ideas and aspirations into a successfully marketable business or product.
Six versions of the program have involved 29 teams, and six of those teams were successful in gaining more financing right away. From June to November 2023, the program will be in effect.

Requirements
- In order to improve the sub-Saharan African media, Jamlab is seeking dedicated, innovative, and passionate journalists and media makers. Startups who seek to develop cutting-edge goods or services for target markets or publicize fresh conversations or concepts are what we are searching for.
- Jamlab accepts submissions from ALL African nations.
- PLEASE NOTE: Stable internet access and solid English speaking and writing skills are must for successful startups.
Benefits
The following will be given to the chosen six teams:
- Mentoring and coaching through the internet from seasoned media, startup, and technology experts and entrepreneurs.
- The Wits Center for Journalism is offering free spots on a three-month Media Entrepreneurship course.
- access to a development team for technical support.
- Opportunities to present an MVP (minimum viable product) to possible investors, funders, and other stakeholders.
- access to a network that includes program alumni among others.
Application Methodology:
- You will be required to submit a brief pitch outlining your idea for a new journalism start-up or outlining your current business, together with your plans for expanding and developing it. Include a justification for your company’s innovation in the market in this pitch.
- You will also be required to submit brief resumes for each member of your key team, along with a description of their contribution to the project.
- Keep in mind that successful teams will require a consistent internet connection and effective English speaking and writing skills.
Timeline:
- On Friday, May 19, 2023, at midnight (Central African Time), applications must be submitted.
- On June 7, 2023, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
