The World Bank estimates that each year, natural disasters and climate-related disasters force 26 million people into poverty, necessitating the availability of institutional, financial, and technical resources to help these populations adapt to climate change more effectively. IBM sought to scale and expedite solutions for assisting marginalized groups most at risk from environmental hazards by combining experts and technology.
When used with purpose, technology, according to IBM, has the power to transform lives. For this reason, they’ve created this initiative to use the power of science and cutting-edge technologies like hybrid cloud and AI to have a greater, longer-lasting, sustainable societal influence.
Some instances could be:
- Geospatial analytics and AI foundation models to find new insights
- better condition predicting with AI
- Asset administration for user and customer support
- security for data in the cloud
- Solutions for operational and situational awareness using the Internet of Things
- forecasting weather and climate to foresee effects on natural and built infrastructure
Benefits
- In order to promote the project of emphasis within the Accelerator, IBM offers organizations credits for IBM Cloud and IBM Environmental Intelligence Suite Data APIs throughout the event. It also offers technical mentoring.
Eligibility
- Worldwide organizations may participate in the IBM Sustainability Accelerator.
- Both charitable and governmental groups are welcome to submit.
Choice Process
- Each year, IBM will choose roughly five firms to work with in a cohort to concentrate efforts on a particular aspect of sustainability. RFPs will be used in the selection process, and any nonprofit or governmental
- organization may submit a bid (which is then evaluated using the usual IBM Trust and Compliance procedures). The companies in the first cohort of the IBM Sustainability Accelerator were chosen based on proposals that were requested through a pilot RFP that was shared with companies who were already a member of IBM’s network and/or those of their partners.
Application
IBM is now accepting applications for the upcoming Accelerator cohort through May 31. Each chosen organization will receive funding from the Accelerator for up to two years.
